Job Purpose
The Data Product Owner role is very crucial for the advancement of Data Strategy operationalization and progressing forward the WB data product roadmap by prioritizing WB requirements that cater to Business, Operations and Support teams for all Data Domains / Sub-domains related to Corporate, FI and SME banking customers and to ensure data consumer adoption of the governed/certified data products landscape. This role provides techno-functional and hands-on expertise required for data management and data products implementation and is placed under respective Data Product Ownership teams under the federated approach, works through a partnership / collaborative model with CoE’s Data Strategy & Governance Function and IT teams.
Specifically, the job holder will be responsible for following duties –
Core Responsibilities of Data Product Owners:
Data Management:
- Strong understanding of Corporate products like Corporate Loans, Liabilities, Trade, Cash ,Collaterals and Treasury products.
- Work with the business, operations and support teams in WB and SME. Also engaging with other teams that consume client data, Requirement gathering
- Data validation for availability and data accuracy
- Plan the data squad activities and lead the execution strategy.
- Manage the backlog of data product.
- Lead a team of data engineers and test engineers to implement the data products.
- Liaise with architecture, security, risk and platform teams on framework and guidelines
- Develop deep understanding of the data from Business users developing knowledge of business flows and data creation and consumption.
- Work with BI team and CRM to enable data to be consumed for business performance dashboards/ alerts across relationship, portfolio, product, and ops team.
- Ensure quality though sanity / UAT testing
- Ensure the data uniformity and standardization across all ENBD entities Manage the framework to incorporate regional changes and regulatory frameworks.
- Support Migration activity over different platforms
Forming & Operationalizing Data Domain Working Groups:
- Identifying the relevant data consumers for the assigned data domains/sub-domains
- Regularly conducting the working group sessions with data consumers for capturing their data needs, maintaining a unified data products backlog with prioritization continuously reviewed and agreed upon
- Also, acting as a Data Consumer Representative (as may be required) as part of other data domain / sub-domain specific working group sessions for articulating the data requirements to respective data product owners, that are needed to be addressed for respective business stakeholders / data consumers.
Data Product level Functional Specifications:
- Converting the high-level data requirements from data consumers into detailed functional specifications (covering data mapping with golden source, business rules/data transformation rules, business glossary/data definitions, data quality rules, observability metrics, data access specifications etc.,)
- Maintain in-depth knowledge regarding systems/platforms that provide data (golden sources) and stay up to date regarding ongoing system enhancements/migrations that may impact data product design or structure.
- Drive the Identification of the data gaps and delegate responsibilities to CRM / Systems/ BAU core teams (corporate governance) to fix relevant data gaps
- Data quality management –establish data quality model and provide the strategic framework and vision to corporate governance team and core consolidation teams to fix data quality issues (short term and long term).
Data Modeling Functionality Assurance Reviews:
- Working closely with Data Modeling team for the data products design based on the functional specifications.
- Participating in Data Model design reviews and approving the desired functionality for each data product
Data Products Implementation & Ensuring Data Consumer Adoption:
- Working as a partnership / collaborative model with CoE-Data Strategy & Governance function and IT teams for the implementation of Data Products for assigned data domains.
- Ensuring data consumer adoption to respectively owned data products landscape thus enable business value and reduce dependency on ungoverned data sources.
Data Product Life-cycle Management:
- Accountable for end-end functionality of data products (Lineage, carrying out data quality root-cause analysis and remediation efforts, future enhancements, retention / purging / archival etc.,)
- Ensuring consistent Master & Reference data generated and leveraged wherever applicable.
Data Discoverability & Understandability:
- Ensuring the contents of data are found in Enterprise Data Products platform and are self-described thus enabling data democratization capabilities across the organization.
- To be able to work with Metadata Management / Data Governance tooling teams for accomplishing the desired.
Data Privacy, Protection & Terms of Use:
- Ensuring the data is managed according to the data privacy/protection regulations and ensuring rules governing access to and use of the data are established and enforced.
Communication:
- Actively communicating the enhancements / changes to data product functionality to Data Consumer Community
- Providing active contributions to Data Strategy community by conducting learning-series events for the development / enhancement of the data literacy for the group
Key Teams to Collaborate with:
- Understands all aspects of Data Strategy, Data Governance & Data Management and serve as a thought leader for the advancement of data strategy operationalization.
- Works closely with the of Data Strategy & Governance office and respective data domain specialists for progressing the data product roadmap & delivery.
- Works with Data Modeling teams for accomplishing the long-term stable design for Data Products
- Works with Metadata Management / Data Governance tooling SMEs for enabling the data discoverability & understandability capabilities for data consumers.
- Acts as a key point of contact for the organization wide data consumers for the assigned data domains/sub-domains.
- Work closely with Business & IT Application teams and lead efforts for identifying the accurate business logic for all target data attributes required as part of data product definitions.
- work in close collaboration with Technology resources such as Source System SMEs, Data Engineers, Data Architects, Data Platform & Security SMEs for the successful implementation of Data Products
- Actively lead efforts for identifying external data assets and appropriately mapping them to business / data consumer needs. Conduct deep exploratory data analysis of External Data Products, executing PoCs and demonstrating value
Managerial:
- Manage a team of business-focused and technically skilled data analysts / contractors to advance data products roadmap.
- Mentor and coach, the team whilst providing technical & functional/data training and up-skilling as necessary.
- Support the Data Strategy & Governance office, share best practices, seamlessly navigate between all relevant data stakeholders. Be a trusted and informed advisor/partner to organization wide data consumers and other relevant staff.
- Prepare and present status updates, issues / challenges / risks, and solutions relevant stakeholders and partners in business and technology teams in a succinct manner to drive decision-making and actions.
- Lead meetings and working group sessions to solve issues / challenges / risks by factoring input from data consumer community, other partners, and diverse points of view.
- Promote ‘data as a product / an asset’ and drive culture change to make the organization increasingly data informed.
Main Tasks
- Lead the efforts for implementation of Data Products at group level or for assigned data-domains / sub-domains
- Building rich data flow & systems knowledge for assigned domains/subject areas and integrating the expertise for business use-case enablement.
- Ensuring trustworthiness of data across all its application
- Enabling data democratization capabilities through publishing the data products in self-describing manger onto Enterprise Data Products platform
- Identify, assess, and manage external data assets.
- Works with Data Engineering team to Ingest, prepare and organize the data from external sources.
- Drives PoC Execution, Results demonstration and manage Contracting
Experiences
- FRM certification preferred
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in Data & Information Management and Data Governance domains
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in holding managerial responsibilities
- Demonstrated expertise & experience in working through a federated / centralized data strategy & governance models
- Strong Banking domain knowledge. Strong experience in implementing robust data management solutions for financial organizations
- Multi Market Experience Preferred
