About The Job

Summary:

 

Tribune Design & Production Studio is seeking a Page Designer (Production Assistant) to join our team! Duties for Production Assistant may vary within the team, but all involve preparing content or preparing content schedules. Some work may include preparing graphics, articles, photos and designs for publication in print newspapers; proofing and typesetting newspaper pages for all newspapers; and editing and designing content to be shared across all newspapers.

 

What you will do:

 

  • Keyboarding information while making style changes from hard copy, websites or other sources
  • Compiling sports scores and agate, graphics, election results, statistical tables
  • Tracking freelance submissions and handling freelance invoices or contracts
  • Compiling event listings
  • Copying content or designed pages from one CMS to another
  • Proofreading written material or pages for accuracy
  • Manually download files from vendors
  • Upload files to production system
  • Communicate with vendors when files are missing
  • Typesetting pages
  • Employing creativity to present all information in easy-to-read, visually appealing, informative and energetic design
  • Editing photos: pulling photos from wires and other sources; cropping and toning photos for publication
  • Meeting production deadlines and maintaining ideal page flow under minimal to moderate supervision
  • Striving to meet specific individual goals to be assigned on a regular basis by supervisor

 

What you will bring:

 

  • Initiative, attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to multitask and perform well under constant deadlines with only moderate supervision
  • Strong command of the English language and the ability to learn editing and design skills
  • Carry out all assignments and job duties in a manner consistent with the professional and ethical standards of journalism in general
  • College degree with a major in journalism, communications or the language arts, or comparable experience, such as a year of employment in a professional office dealing with language or design
