Job Purpose

Serves as HVAC Maintenance Engineer and will be responsible for all installation, maintenance, and repair of Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning systems and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and environmental control systems. Incumbent plans individual jobs and long-term work operations, develops a preventive maintenance program, and controls the quality of repair work. Responsibilities also include designing smaller air-conditioning systems, designing modifications to existing systems, reviewing plans and specifications for contracted work, and reviewing the work of outside contractors. Will also be expected to resolve most problems exercising discretionary judgement and analysis even in the most complex situations.

Key Accountabilities

• Thorough knowledge of Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning systems
• Considerable knowledge of the design and operation of large HVAC equipment (Cooling Plants, Heat Exchangers, ETS, AHUs, FAHUs, FCUs, CWPs etc)
• Considerable knowledge of the design and operation of pneumatic control systems
• Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment
• Working knowledge of electricity
• Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and prescribe repair procedures
• Ability to train and supervise others
• Ability to prioritize, plan, assign, coordinate and direct the work of HVAC Technicians and Team Leaders
• Ability to design smaller systems or design modifications to larger systems
• Ability to review and critique plans and specifications for HVAC and environmental control systems Coordinating skills to schedule work so facility is not interrupted; maintain records of time and materials used on all jobs
• Analytical skills to diagnose HVAC problems; and to understand and work from blueprints, schematics and other construction drawings
• Excellent communication skills to communicate with client representatives (being multi-lingual will be an advantage)
• Manual skills to repair equipment
• Receive oral or written work requests and sets priorities
• Assign personnel to jobs
• Review all work orders before and after completion
• Maintain budget, records and files, and prepares reports
• Supervise major overhaul or installation of environmental control systems to assure that work is carried out according to plans and specifications
• Conduct a quality check of work in progress or upon completion to assure acceptability
• Oversee repair and replacement of faulty equipment, wiring and controls, and other components related to the HVAC systems
• Review the work of contractors for adherence to plans and specifications and for quality assurance
• Train staff in the proper use of tools, and proper work procedures
• Keep records of work orders, inventory and expenditures
• Estimate and orders needed equipment and supplies
• Design modifications to existing systems to achieve efficient operation
• Review plans and specifications for new construction to determine compatibility with existing equipment or acceptability of design
• Coordinate work with other trades as needed
• Provide technical assistance to technicians when requested
• Recommend persons to be hired, disciplined, discharged, or promoted
• Perform other duties/special assignments as required or to meet the ongoing needs of the department
• Coordinate maintenance programs with user units to determine relative priorities and on-time completion of work in critical operating facilities with available work force.
• Recommend special work schedules, overtime or extension of unit downtime to meet unusual or emergency situations.
• Prepare timely and accurate departmental statements and reports to meet and department requirements, policies and standards.
• Ensure all relevant quality, health, safety and environmental procedures, instructions and controls are adhered to so that the safety of employees, quality of products/services and environmental compliance can be guaranteed.
• Liaise with the HSEQ department for creating standard operating procedures.
• Perform other related duties or assignments as directed.

Qualifications, Experiences, & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (4+ years Degree)
• 5+ years’ experience in technical maintenance with exposure to Facilities Management especially in the areas of Mechanical Engineering and maintenance of Airports, Retail, & industrials sections.
• Knowledge of the UAE laws and regulations as well as global best practices; decisiveness and judgment, innovative and conceptual skills, numerical and problem solving skills, communication and influencing skills, interpersonal and negotiation skills, planning and organizing skills, leadership and teamwork skills, computer proficiency.
• Knowledge of safe work methods and practices
• Knowledge of materials used in HVAC installation, maintenance and repair work
• Knowledge of international & local industry specific codes
• Knowledge of tools and equipment used in HVAC installation, maintenance and repair work
