About the Job
Chilewich is seeking an entrepreneurially minded design lover with a passion for how things are made to join our team as Associate Textile Designer.
In this multifaceted role, you’ll work closely with our New York City multi-level design team, suppliers, and our GA-based factory. The day-to-day position will assist in the product design and development process in our NYC design studio with concepting, daily design work, and prototyping.
Responsibilities
- Concept, create, and support in the design, development, and execution of new product (woven, tufted, printed, etc.) lines for our wholesale, direct, and A&D divisions.
- Communicate with vendors and maintain ongoing interaction and supervision to ensure proper development and timely delivery of development samples.
- Create development packages for all products, providing specs and clear instructions to Chilewich production team & partners to transition smoothly from design to sampling and ultimately to production.
- Maintain organized records of all development; update and maintain library of past and current materials in the studio.
- Communicate daily with our sales team, assistant designers, suppliers, production team, and our own factory to ensure that design standards are met, and calendar dates are followed.
- Ensure timely delivery of concepts, prototypes, and samples.
- Use creative problem-solving to resolve challenges with product development and deliveries.
Required Skills And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Textile Design or Fine Arts
- Experience 2 years in design industry
- Dobby and Jacquard woven knowledge/capabilities
- In depth & highly creative design knowledge with aesthetic design point of view compatible to Chilewich vision.
- Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency, particularly Adobe Creative Suite and Excel.
- Detail-oriented, producing work that has been triple-checked for accuracy.
- Organized with ability to flex and juggle changing calendar and needs of growing brand/product.
- Inquisitive, self-motivated, and inclined to confidently ask questions to gain a thorough understanding of what is required.
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Impeccable organizational skills, the ability to multitask and a “no job is too small” attitude.
- Salary of 70-95k depending on experience; full benefits package and 401k.
